Goldtooth is a guerrilla-style music video I shot and edited for alternative hip-hop artist Oscar Goldman, a six-fingered, six-toed little person from Sonora, California.
Produced by his longtime collaborator Casey Chisholm, the song is deeply personal and vulnerable, touching on identity, grief, sorrow, and the loss of loved ones.
Joining Oscar in the video are Codefendants, real rock stars and Vegas locals deeply connected to the punk and hip-hop scenes, with records produced by Fat Mike of NOFX. One of the members of Codefendants is Ceschi Ramos, founder of Fake Four Inc., one of the most established independent music labels in the country and a label that has helped give Oscar’s unique brand of hip-hop a meaningful home.
We filmed parts of the video during one of their industry events, at the Punk Rock Museum, and at a local tattoo shop, where another friend of the community gave Oscar his gold tooth tattoo to celebrate the collaboration. Lastly, another friend rickshawed us through downtown Las Vegas, weaving through traffic, back alleyways, and the iconic Vegas cityscape.
While the video is loosely scripted and compiled in a raw, spontaneous way, it captures the essence of Oscar Goldman: friendship, community, individuality, and the willingness to do things his own way while allowing the adventure to arrive.
